    The Science

BroadBand Light is the world’s most powerful IPL device, emitting broad-spectrum photothermal energy to selectively heat the upper layers of skin. This energy is absorbed by specific target areas, causing the stimulated cells to go into overdrive as they react to the controlled trauma. Such damage signals the body to discard the damaged cells and generate new ones by boosting collagen production. According to multiple scientific studies, BBL is proven to alter the expression of genes related to age, making the skin look and act younger at a cellular level.

    The Plain Speak

BBL is a cutting-edge skin treatment that delivers short blasts of high-intensity light into the skin to improve its appearance, resulting in healthier, smoother and more vibrant-looking skin. The light delivered by the device works to gently heat the skin, stimulating the body to shed damaged skin cells and generate new collagen to help bring healthier layers of skin to the surface. BBL treatments can be tailored to treat a range of skin concerns, such as pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, redness and rosacea and active acne.

Before any BBL treatment, it is critical that you avoid sun exposure and come to your treatment free of any self-tan. While treatments do not usually cause any discomfort, you may opt for us to apply a topical anaesthetic to your skin. You will also be given a pair of protective eyewear to wear during treatment.

During the procedure, your clinician will apply the BBL device to the skin, delivering light energy at precise pulses to target your specific areas of concerns. You may experience a warm sensation or a feeling comparable to a rubber-band snap. The entire process will take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the size of your treatment area. Following your treatment, you can immediately return to your usual activities. Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun in the weeks following, so you should be extra vigilant about sun protection.

As your skin heals from treatment, any pigmented areas will begin to darken and flake off, and broken capillaries will slowly close up. You can expect to see a difference in the appearance of your skin within two weeks, although most patients usually require a series of one to three treatments to see the best results. Over the following months, collagen production will continue to increase, meaning that results will only get better with time. The effects of these results can last for up to a year, although annual follow-up treatment can help you maintain this in the long-term.
