    The Science

Anti-wrinkle (or muscle-relaxant) injections are made of a naturally-occurring neurotoxic protein that acts on the junctions between nerves and muscles, temporarily preventing the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. The compound has been safely used for more than forty years to treat a wide range of medical disorders worldwide.

    The Plain Speak

Cosmetically, anti-wrinkle injections are used to either relax muscles that cause static and dynamic lines, or, in an experienced Practitioner’s hands, to manipulate a facial muscle’s resting position to achieve a desired aesthetic result. By relaxing dynamic muscles (the muscles that contract when we make facial expressions, like forehead lines when you raise your eyebrows), we are preventing those muscles from contracting and therefore forming deep lines during expression. Injecting these muscles also acts to release them in their static (or resting) position, further removing fine lines and wrinkles from the surface of the skin. The other cosmetic application for muscle-relaxants involves precise positioning and dosage injected into specific facial muscles to manipulate their resting position. An example of this is injecting the orbital rim, the muscle that circles the eye. If treated precisely, the procedure acts to both open the eye, resulting in a refreshed appearance, and to lift the brow to achieve a more aesthetic shape.

    The Price

Magnolia uses two variants of anti-wrinkle injection. For cost comparison, 2.5 times as much Type D variant is required to achieve the same aesthetic effect as Type B variant.

Overall treatment cost will be dependent on the number of units required to achieve the desired aesthetic result. This will vary slightly from patient to patient, based on your individual muscle size and strength. As a guide, however, approximately 50 units of Type D anti-wrinkle (or 20 units Type B) will be required to smooth out frown lines.

    The Price

    Type B From $13
    Type D From $4
